Stef Uiterwaal ( Born January 8, 1889 - Died October 26, 1960) was a Dutch sculptor and painter. Born the eldest into a highly Catholic family, religious subject matter was of the utmost importance to Uiterwaal. Uiterwaal primarily commissioned work for churches and private residencies.
One of Uiterwaal's most recognizable sculptures is the Madonna and Child, first created in 1928 and still in production today.
The Madonna and Child is a representation of the Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus.
This imagery symbolizes profound themes of maternal love, divine redemption, and the relationship between the Great Mother Spirit and humanity. It also embodies the connection between the divine and the human, with Mary representing faith, purity, and mercy, and Jesus symbolizing eternal life and hope
