The History

33 W Jefferson was built circa 1898. The elaborate decoration and the two bay windows are elements of the Queen Anne Style used in this commercial building built by Ed Shaefer. He ran a barbershop in the west half, while the east half was long occupied by a series of milliners, who did a thriving business in ladies’ hats. Joe Costello founded Costello Jewelry Co in 1979 and has since been a highly notable business in downtown Naperville. Since the Costello's moved in downstairs, the upstairs unit was divided into two apartments and rented out to tenants. The Apartment pays homage to the buildings history of being a livable space with each room maintaining its original use. When you walk into The Apartment you will immediately feel as though you are entering your good friend's home or even your own.
